okay so yesterday morning i got rear-ended by this taxi driver. no serious damage, just dropped bumper and bent rear quarter panel. since i was in 'D' at the time, with my foot on the brake ... could there have been any damage to the drivetrain? the reason i ask is because gearchanges have seemed harsher since the shunt, where before they were almost unnoticeable. am i just imagining this?

flagstaff,

You could have bent the exhaust and it's now rubbing on the body or Chassis somewhere?

hm, checked all that. i don't even know if it's my imagination, you know, being hyper aware of possible damage ... but the gearchanges seem much rougher than before the guy hit me. anyway, been on a 400 mile round trip today, and everything seems ok. gearchange still worries me though ... it used to be unnoticeable, to the extent that i made a point of listening/feeling for it. it's much harsher now. anyway, an engineer/assessor's coming this week to check it out so i suppose i'll have more idea after that.

thanks

Make sure you tell the Engineer that you suspect the transmission is not functioning as it did. If he doesn't know how it felt before he can't dismiss your allegation that it's got a problem. At least you can get it checked out by a Merc. expert free of charge on the other guy's insurance. Better safe than sorry if it breaks after the claim is settled.
