My CLK has only got a 3 month warranty from the garage that I got it from and once thats over I have got to make a decision to either run the car "unprotected" or buy a aftermarket warranty.
Whats the collectives thoughts on these warranties and any experiences/recommendations

Thanks

I've had three over the years, none have paid out fully for expenses, even when I've had problems that are specifically covered (one case where they said they couldn't get the parts, so they didn't cover it and another where they limited the amount they would pay per hour to a self defined "national average". That average was well under 1/3rd of what it was actually costing me.

All three have gone into liquidation - though I've no doubt the owners have resurfaced with a new name.

I was in the same position when I bought my CLK Cabriolet in December. The cost of a warranty was huge, especially with the engine weighting, so decided not to bother.

With my previous bmw convertible, I got a years BMW warranty from dealer and then left it uncovered for next 2 1/2 years. Had a couple of things that could have claimed on but the warranty was over £700 a year so was still well ahead.

Fingers crossed for the CLK, although my rear taillight buld has gone today - ahhhhhhh:cool:

Warranty thats a laugh. When we bought my lovely wife's 320ce a superb motor incidentally, the dealer {small independent) told us the warranty was'nt worth the paper it was written on. I can confirm that cos my neighbour about 5 yrs ago had a similar warranty on an audi 100 auto, well the gearbox gave out which cost 1600 nicka and the max payout was 250 just about the vat. I should say 250 or so wouldnt be a deposit if something goes on a modern merc. Good luck hope you find a better warranty than those two. ya'll have a nice day

I got one years RAC breakdown insurance cover (£500 limit per claim) from the place I bought mine from. Not claimed (yet) so no personal experience but I know someone else who had a policy and they paid out within 2 weeks, the full value of the claim and no quibbling, highly unusual for an insurance policy/company of any type!! I think the policy cost her about £120.00 for the year. Check out their website, if I remember right they give online quotes for this type of cover.
