Our air conditioning regas machine will automatically hold a vacuum in the system for 25 minutes. If no vacuum loss is detected, it will carry on and refill the system. If it does detect a loss of vacuum, it will abort.

Unfortunately often the leak is so small that the vacuum does not drop. We only know when the customer phones back up after a few weeks. We always put a dye in the system, but unless the leak is in a visible area, sometimes you cannot see it with the UV lamp.

The system should then be filled with Nitrogen at a higher pressure to enable finding the leak(s)

If you know that there is a leak, it's illegal to carry out a regas and allow gas to escape into the environment.

Thanks for the info - very interesting. I've requested a refund from Kwik Fit, they are yet to reply. if they don't refund me the information you supplied will come in very handy.

Wow, thread hi jack !!!!!!!.
There may well be a fault in the airbag system. The car will have to be plugged in to a diagnostic tool that can read the airbag module.
It may well be it just needs a reset, could be connections under seat, lots of reasons.
@AJD doesnt normally thread hijack , I’m guessing he was so traumatised having a warning light on his new car , he just lost his sh@t :D

No I havn't as yet. I looked it up on the internet and they gave some instructions as to how to clear it but that didn't clear it. I guess I will have to book it in at my local Indy although to lose the car for a day and he is about five miles away is all a bit awkward. I am half tempted to leave it until the next service albeit next June.

I don't think there would be any harm done it's just that the passenger side Airbag is in-opertive, at least that is what the light is telling me. The light itself is in a pretty innocuous position so I will see. It could be that the Indy would have a look whilst I wait, That would be good if he could. :)

If they are a good indy, phone them and ask if it can be scanned while you wait, it may be that a simple reset will do it

Funny enough we went to Biggleswade yesterday and when the speed limiter was sitting in the passenger seat the light first said ' Passenger air bag on' and then went out but not within the 6 seconds it tells you in the handbook. So no problem it would seem. :)

Hello an update on my air conditioning.

Yesterday I took my CLK into an air conditioning specialist (Don't forget I had it re-gassed twice by Kwik Fit in the past 2 weeks) There was no gas, so they re-gassed and put a dye in the system. The diagnosis is that I need a new condenser. I've been quoted £424 + re gas £59 = £483.

I complained to Kwik Fit who have now refunded the £59 re-gas fee.

What are your thoughts on the cost?

Labour costs are expensive as it’s quite a job to get the condenser out

You can get a Nissens condenser for around £100. Not sure how difficult a job it is on your car but not having an intercooler it shouldn't be too bad. You could in theory replace it yourself then get it regassed.

Thanks for your reply.

Me do it my self isn't happening. By all accounts the front of the car has to come off. If I did it my self the car would never drive again!!

Fair enough :)

I haven't got a garage or driveway either. I'd rather pay someone to fix it properly. Now I know what the fault is I've reached out to several garages for quotes.

Given you are near Bristol I'd be talking to @Steve@Avantgarde on here. A very highly respected Mercedes independent specialist in Clevedon.
He can do the whole job and you know it'll be done properly.

A/C condenser update - This morning I dropped my car off at a Mercedes specialist. They have quoted me £188+VAT

I'll keep you posted on developments.
