2001 CLK 230K

This may be a daft question but thought i'd check it out anyway.

I need a new airflow meter for the above car. I've checked out Eurocarparts who are charging around £165 for Bosh or £82 for alternative manufacturer..

Thing is, go onto EBay and there a load of them on there for around £40 odds..

Obviously they aren't going to be OE/Bosh units but im attracted to the significantly cheaper price!

Has anyone bought one from EBay - did it work ok??

The general concensus of opinion on this forum is that ebay MAFs are cheap rubbish, most ppl reckon find out your nearest bosch service centre and buy from there..

Thanks for the replies - more or less what i was beginning to think..

Some of them on EBay have a guarantee period which, along with the significantly cheaper price was tempting me..

As with most things however, there is a good reason why the genuine article is that bit more expensive.

Thanks for the offer Jibcl500 but regretfully im nowhere near Cambs.

Ok - have decided best not to go for the cheap stuff on Ebay..

Thing is - I went back to EuroCarParts who are trying to sell me a Bosh replacement unit. £165..

I checked under the bonnet and my car has a Siemens 5wk9613 unit with a slightly different Merc part code (1110940148) than what Eurocarparts are trying to sell me:confused:

They state it will 'do the job' but after phoning nearest Merc garage for a quote, they said no - you need to get the right part number as different CLK's had different units..and that'll be £276+Vat if you want it from us:eek:

Have hunted further on internet and found dealer selling genuine SiemensVDO unit with matching part numbers for about £150 + delivery etc..

Now - id rather walk into shop and get over the counter..i can't find anywhere locally that will source the Siemems unit so question is - will the Bosh unit 'do the job'?

Dealers not always that expensive ;-)

Hi
First post - so apologies if etiquette not correct.
I realise there has been a lot of discussion in multiple threads on the topic of different suppliers of MAFs & I am not sure if they vary wildly in price depending upon model. My recent experience through the Merc main dealer in Bedford was as follows:
Run diagnostics, supply & fit of MAF (on 2001 E320 CDI) for £172 all in (& they washed the car :D ) - Also keeps my service history all neat for when they need to re-spray it for rust again ;-)

Richard

Ps (part was £63 plus VAT).

The diesel MAF is a lot cheaper than the petrol version, as you say around £60 for the MB diesel MAF..

Why would that be:eek: after all do they not do the same thing:confused: Changed the MAF on my petrol E240 (W210) like for like ie Bosch for Bosch with the same part number on the body obtained from Euro Parts March 07 for £97 incl vat. Good to know that the 'rip off' bit of Britain is not in decline even if the rest is.
