AKSE Child Seat - Non Merc

I have a 4 year old and 2 year old. The Merc price for the 3 to 12 year old is £ 200, but I've only found another seat for 0-18 months, and that's £ 260. Does anyone know of any non-Merc seats that are compatible with AKSE ? My SLK is the facelift 2000 model not the current one. I saw the transponders only for sale on an auction site, but can't be sure if they're correct and my children are worth more than saving a few £s on a gamble.

I don't know the answer to your question, but went to Halfrauds (Stratford upon Avon) recently with my son who was assessing the need to upgrade his child's car seat.

The young chap who answered our querry was very impressive - good product knowledge and knowledge of legal requirements. He concluded we did not need an upgrade and explained why. That meant he did not sell us anything, but certainly impressed with his informed ethical approach.

You could do worse than discuss it with Halfrauds, although of course I can't guarantee you would get the same guy!

Yeh Halfrauds are a mixed bag. You either get one when the numpties are on shift or when the helpful people are. I recently read that I shouldn't worry about the airbags, as the child would be far enough back. No point in asking Merc as they'll sell me something. Also read an article saying that rear facing child seats should be employed upto the age of 4. My son would have to hold his knees to his chin to do that.
