My alloys are looking a little flakey!!

If I was to buy a new set of wheels, what would I need to know? I've heard phrases like offset 'j' etc.

My wheels are 16" with (I need to check) 205 16" 65W rated tyres. Can I just buy another set of 16" wheels and they will fit?

Would I be better to refurbish what I have, buy some new wheels from a Halfords (or such like) or buy some new wheels the same from MB?

Thanks,

Joe

No you just cant go and buy a set of wheels, the off set needs to be somewhere near and other things, what car do you have

If I were you as you have nice wheels, send them away and have them chrome powder coated they will look very nice, roughly £45 per wheel, some firms do them in a day, you can leave the tyres on, as they take care of that

Thanks, £45 per wheel sounds a good option.

I'll have a check around the T'Interweb for options,

Where do you live, by the way the SAAB 9-5 is a super car in my view

Near Loughborough in Leicestershire.

Agree Saab 9-5 is great, especially Aero, engine is wonderful. Rumoured to be quicker from 20-70 than a Porche 911 Turbo. Not sure about that but sure it is quick. Will do 30mpg if really careful more realistic is 25mpg in general use - can't help myself with the turbo though!! Rubbish in the wet too can only use about 25bhp!!

Saab does not have the somewhat subjective quality feel of the MB though - definitely missing something. No doubt it will go on for ever but without the feelgood of the MB.

Saab ride is pretty poor compared with MB too - hard and bouncy at thesame time. Check out my previous post for importance of tyre pressures!!

I had a 9000SE for 5 years very good car, not an MB though as you say.

I do not have so much time tonight or this week end but a search here will tell you the good and bad wheel re finishers, there is one in Liecster , cant remember if good or bad

You're not a million miles from Pristine Wheels in Milton Keynes - they're very highly regarded and used to do a lot of work for MB.

This is as near as I can get for you, its worth taking a look at the finishes in the flesh, so to speak, then take you pick of the finishes, I think that the bright chrome is the best all round, it looks like polished alloy, with none of the headaches
