Hello all,

Just though I would share my experience with the car. I have recently had an issue with a petrol leak when I am filling or when the tank is full. Although this is quiet dangerous I am getting worried/annoyed and not sure what to do to get this resolved. Then I changed the ATF thinking that it would make the gear change even smoother but surprisingly the ride is gone very harsh and the gear change very noticeable on lower revs.

I have been offered to get this checked by putting the car on Star but Its worrying me until I get that done. I am kind of person who enjoy the car and dont like there to be any faults as it bugs me until they are resolved.

Above all that, I find I am not enjoying the ride quality anymore as the car do not tend to stick to corners. I know I had posted something about ride quality little while ago but surely the ride quality should be better than it is as its going all over the place when pushed hard around the corner. IS the car made to be driven sensibly all the time? I always hear people that Merc is a mature person's car..... I am starting to think that maybe it is.....

Hope all gets better on the car and i can start to enjoy it again

but for now I am thinking of changing it for something else

:(

Start with the easy and inexpensive possibilities. The difference which incorrect tyre pressures can make to handling, especially at the margins if you are pushing the car hard, should not be underestimated.

Check condition of the tyres then measure the pressures and set them correctly with the tyres cold (recommended settings are given inside the fuel filler flap). It would be interesting to know what difference that makes before pursuing items such as broken springs. Shock absorber wear should not produce the relatively sudden deterioration you describe.

Hi Amo Sounds like you have some serious probs there mate cornering should be fine if your tyres are good ? check for broken spring/suspesion links loose /roll bar bushes ?
The petrol sounds like the filler pipe split / loose or not connected properly or even corroded ?
The ATF--? although its on service to change I find its best left alone unless causing problems--did you change the filtre ? -Must be spotlessly clean when changing--and use only MB -ATF---also is the level correct ?

Well for my 2 pence worth!

Dave and i did the ATF/filter change last week on Amo,s CLK,

Apart from the rear flexy pipes on the rear and the front wheel bearings needing a slight adjustment the car is Really good, will say the wheels Amo is running on it will give a harsh ride,

When we drained the box the fuild was very dark, almost brown, another flush and it will clear,

You have a nice motor there Amo, sell it and you might buy into something thats going to cost even more!

Stick with what you have, she is clean and better than a lot of CLK,s we have seen!!

Mmmm. Just cr*p driving then? Doubt if a change of car will help much.

Either way, it sounds like just stick with what you have.

I'd suggest swapping to something else .........

for a few days.

I start to critisise mine after a while. You get used to it, everything seems normal and niggles start to grow. After a while you start to wonder why you pay out for a merc when there are lots of fantastic motors out there you could get for a much lower running cost. Then drive something else for a couple of days and you quickly realise why you fell in love with the 3 pointed star in the first place.

It's strange how one bad experience will change your view of a car.

After breaking down on the motorway a few months ago, everytime I drive anywhere I keep thinking that I hear strange noises and I find that I'm convincing myself of problems that really don't exist.

That was until I drove my sister's Peugeot 307 and that actually did feel like it was about to fall apart.

Springs are fine as i only just got them checked a week ago. I have aftermarket 18" alloys with 225/40/18 tyres which are all in good condition. What tyre pressure should i be running?

I am currently running them at 30 front and 32 rear. It has made the economy a little better but not much on the handling part

Honestly I do agree with you. I drive my dad's BMw 320i and find mine to be sooo much smoother and exciting, specially with our electronic Gearbox. I guess i am just having a lil moan. We are all allowed one from time to time right??

Cheers Colin, I love her really lol just felt the ride was very poor on my way to work today but then again it might have been the learner infront of me which made me mad.

Crap driving???? hmmmmm

I dnt think so. I have had my fair share of Hot hatches and guess i miss the ooomph of a GTI's 16v roar and beefy torque at 3000rpm. once i have everything sorted i think i will be good to go

Petrol smell could be a blocked charcoal canister.

Its dripping at the back when i fill up or top it up too much, I think its the perished filler neck. Just a hassle of getting it sorted

Lost on the A303 :o)
I have a plan. Let's swap for a week. You drive my £10.50 Golf Cabriolet and you will know the meaning of a crap car. :D Actually, despite all its faults I really love it and am pleased it managed to pass the MOT. Roll on, summer!

Was thinking about this this morning Amo, dont forget your steering damper has leaked all its oil out, so you are driving about without any damper affect!!

You think that could be effecting the steering response? How is your schedule looking for next saturday? And you didnt answer about how long it will take to carry out all quoted work?
