Does anybody know if there is a manual gearbox which fits either the AMG 3.6 straight six motor, or a 'box which fits the AMG 5.4 V8.

I building a 190E Evolution II replica track car, I have the car (2.5-16) in black, I have the very hard to find and very expensive body kit.

My engine choice are to supercharge it, or replace it with on of the above.
If there are no boxes for either of these two engines, my other choice is a Chevy LS1 5.7 V8 which does fit in believe it or not. but I would prefer to keep a merc engine if possible.

Cheers.

Hi..
If you are building a replica Evo II why would you use anything other than the 2.5 16v? That's the engine that powered them and the chassis was designed for the weight of that engine. Putting a V8 into a 190E sounds like a great idea for a show car, using a non-mercedes engine justs sounds pointless.
Check out this forum, there is a sction dedicated to racing 190E's and some of these guys are pulling 300Bhp+ out of their 2.5 16v's.

You could use a ZF manual from a big BMW or other high-powered car of similar vintage but you'll have to either find a compatible bellhousing, modify the bellhousing to suit or find a box with a removeable bellhousing and modify that to fit - which is the best option to my mind

The 265 box had a removeable bellhousing. With a couple of boxes & bellhousings, and a donor MB box to cut the mounting flange off, you should be able to create the bellhousing you need. That way you can throw the box away when you blow it up and a new box will bolt straight up to your unique bellhousing

All you'll need then is a slave cylinder, release mechanism and clutch assembly to suit...

When Zakspeed created a 16-valve head for the BMW M10 engine they cut the bellhousing off the box, rotated it to stand the engine upright, and welded it back. Easy enough if you've got impeccable engineering skills and are expert in welding aluminium!

As you're not racing it you don't have any homologation or eligibility issues so the choice of engine is down to you. Personally I'd use Chevy V8 and gearbox if it's affordable

A diff from a big Benz should bolt in relatively easily but I think you'll struggle to find a locking diff. And Track Days without lockers are no fun!
