Can't help you with an ML but I had my E200 converted to LPG about 18,000 miles ago and it runs fine, you can just about tell the difference between running on petrol /LPG but it is negligible.
Best advise is get it done by a reputable converter

ML320 on LPG

I (briefly) owned an 2001 ML320 which had a Landi Renzo LPG kit already installed when I bought it. The conversion was done by an outfit near Coventry and seemed OK, but my local friendly LPG specialist (Arun Autogas in Littlehampton) doesn't rate the Landi Renzo system too highly.

The biggest niggle I had with the system was that the LPG tank was under-slung beneath the boot and the space there is limited by two iron girders so you can only fit about a 65 - 70 litre cylinder LPG tank (50 litre gas capacity). Since the ML is rather thirsty, I was struggling to get more than 200 miles from a tank of LPG. This is fine if you live near some filling stations and don't mind filling up regularly, but can be a chore. Think carefully about whether to sacrifice boot space and go for a larger LPG tank inside the car.

I sold the car after 3 months because bits of interior trim kept falling apart and it wallowed like a double-decker bus on the bends. Not too good for transporting the children!

I have a 2005 E Class 200K Estate and I am considering having it converted. Does the tank completely fill the underfloor boot space or is there still some room for some sort of spare.

Not sure about the W211 estate, but my W210 saloon had a full size spare wheel (15" wheel with a 205/55/15 tyre, from memory) and this was just large enough for a 70 litre Stako LPG tank. This gives a usable LPG fill of 56 litres, and a range of 310-320 miles which is just about enough for me.

If you try to fit a space-saver in as well as the LPG tank, you'll either have a tiny LPG tank or you'll need to raise the floor of the boot - not a good idea!

I suggest carrying an emergency tyre inflation/sealant kit if you don't want a spare tyre in the boot. It will deal with most tyre problems, but if you shred a tyre you're stuck.:-(
