Sooooo... selling the E-Class and leaving the Mercedes flock

Why?

1. Even though the car is a great cruiser, it sounds like a tractor when accelerating and decelerating around town. As Botus has observed...
2. In this financial and ecological climate, I cannot justify running a Euro 4 barge at 32mpg average.
3. I've grown a bit bored of the old-fashioned interior.

Going from the Merc to my new car (arriving shortly) will be like going from a gentleman's club to Bladerunner. In a good way. Here's what I'm getting:

Anyway, it's been a pleasure and an education visiting this forum. I've been much more of a leech than a resource but that's because I'm not really mechanically-minded; I doff my chapeau to all the amazing people on this forum who've used their wisdom and expertise to inform me. A particular nod, perhaps, to Wighty, who always has a cheerful word and a bit of encouragement.

SOMEONE will say "you're welcome to stick around". That would be very kind but we all know it won't happen; I'll be off to the Peugeot forum soon, button-holing THEM for cheap advice.

One quick reason to stick around in the short term is that I have an iCarSoft MBII (with the latest firmware) for sale. I want £90 so please PM me if interested; I'll also put it in the classifieds...

So I wish everyone all the very best!

Over and out.

Sorry to see you go but there are a lot of good alternatives out there so not surprised.

As above do stick around we are mostly motoring enthusiasts on here so interested in feedback on all brands

Good luck with it and I hope the Peugeot forum turns out to be as helpful

If you’re like me then you’ll be back, went from an S211 to an 508 RXH a few years ago and then came back after it left me stranded one too many times.
The new 508’s are a cracking looking machine though and relatively comfortable, just won’t be quite as good as the E your leaving.
I too would be interested to hear your views on it after a couple of months so please do pop back and let us know.
Side note the Peugeot forum isn’t a patch on this one, they can also be a little pedantic on certain things too which can become quite annoying. I think I still have an account over there, might just have to pop over and see if it’s still the same

What a beast, the new 508 certainly is a fine looking car!

I confess I'd never spend £20K on a Peugeot - but that's just my personal view, and it is a stunning looking car just the same.

Best of luck on the Peugeot forum - not that I can imagine you will need much technical help with a nearly new car.

Add the BMW 5 series to the list Rory the facelift >2021 is very impressive judging by what my son has just bought ie, the 530d MHT, I’m tempted to buy the 540i Touring but it hasn’t the load capacity of the E class
I was always a BMW fan and owned 2 from new and 1 used pre 2000. More recently my son had the X6 and I didn’t like the interior. Will have to take another look when I go shopping.

I had to drive my wife to the airport at 4am this week so some incentive to replace the SL. However had I been driving her in the SL and not the B, the trip would have been a pleasure instead of a chore.:D

Again there’s no reason to leave and many owners have other marques too. I totally agree the Merc diesels sound dreadful, especially when cold and in fact it was probably it’s stand out shocking feature. I certainly won’t be replacing my Mercs with anything newer when they die (and they will unlike the rest of my fleet) but I’ll stay here, it’s a good car community.

Nice car that you have bought and quite a different choice compared to the average joes in a good way! I hope it does all the Peugeot things well for you!

It's a god idea to stick around. We may learn a bit about other makes.

Ha ha - I'm assuming you're focusing on "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave"...

But what about "(He's) got the Mercedes Bends"? Maybe so but very soon I won't have the Mercedes BENZ...

I've never previously spent more than £13K on a car, whatever the make, so this is new territory for me...

Two years ago, I bought a 3-yr-old Insignia for £11,200. I find it impossible now to find a 3-yr-old large saloon for less than c. £16,000. Prices have gone absolutely bonkers...

The 508 I'm getting is the top-of-the-range GT model which comes with an embarrassment of toys, bells and whistles so I'm hoping it's worth the inflated price...

I always enjoy taking the wife to the airport....
One of my favourite jokes:

A: My wife should be on the plane by now.
B: Oh, is she going on holiday?
A: No, she's hanging a door...

Don’t know if it is still the same but wherever I went in Africa there were always lots of old Peugeots around. It they can withstand Africa, it’s drivers & bush mechanics they have to be good.:)
