Hi all, I have annoying rattles that seem to come from the doors of my SL55 but extensive examination of the doors has found nothing. I am now pretty sure that the rattles disappear when the roof is down. Could the roof be transmitting vibrations/rattles into the doors? Anyone heard of anything similar? Best regards, Peter

Can you try to describe said rattles? Some of us have had annoying g noises when the lining of the boot has popped out at one part...I know for me I was sure I had the rattle in the car when this happened to me so it's worth a check...

Well - the main rattle from the drivers door area seems to come from the top of the door and is quite a harsh click rather than a buzz. There is another from the passenger door which is more buzzy and sounds like something in the door bin or glovebox (there isn't!)

When you say top of the door, is this the door or the glass

They're not but the problem/solution may be similar?

The 230 doors are nothing like the 219 in any way other than being frame less or pillar less for want of a better word

The point was it may be the same sort of issue with the glass. Just something to consider.

Thanks all. To answer Television's question first of all, the driver's door rattle appears to come from the top of the door itself, not the glass. Kind of around where the door handle mechanism runs along. I don't think it is a loose glass - the door panel and bin have been off three times and all screws etc. checked. The rattle isn't the door bin lids as you can hold them tight whilst still getting the rattles. Ditto the glovebox. I heard roof rattles are a common problem and that as the rattles disappear when the roof is down (and I believe when the windows are partially down with the roof up), that it is the roof causing the problem.

Can anyone supply the instructions for removing the SL door card? I need to have a look for myself I think. It's a 53 plate SL55. Many thanks, Peter

The annoying noise from , what I am sure is the rear offside window on the R230 , is getting worse so I am going to pop off the rear panel and see what I can adjust in there..starting to feel like the window isn't 'tight' due to the vibration rattles I am getting at times ..sounds like glass knocking on glass or metal .. What is there to adjust on that rear window inside the panel though before I go and remove it...

Take off the rear inside panels and the top panel

I can talk you through most of it on the phone, I can send the adjustment paper for the window
