Hi I have just bought a e250 and I have an annoying screech. It only happens when doing about 15mph coming to a stop and again starts at a similar speed when you pull off. It only lasts a couple of seconds and it doesn't happen all the time. I think it happens after a couple of miles so as the engine has warmed up. Its not very loud but I can hear it. I've tried stopping and starting the engine when warm and revving it but is doesn't happen so I don't think is belts. The other thing is that the temp gauge reads 89 when warm. My last couple of cars have just had a mid line the the needle lines up with when warm. Anyone any ideas

Hello and welcome
I have a e250 the coolant should be around 93°c. This on the temp gauge is 1 or 2 marks above half way. If the temp struggles to get up then perhaps a new thermostat is required.
For the screeching does it only happen on a cold start?
What's the age and mileage of the car?

Hi Dean
the coolant temp is about right then. The screeching only happens after the car has warmed up, and only say as you slow down for a junction or pull away . It only happened once yesterday on my 11 mile commute home from work and hasn't done it this morning. So its a bit of a puzzle. Its 2014 with 50k on the clock and has been serviced every year at MB, the last one being July this year.

Sooo it is brakes related.
How about spraying brake cleaner on all the four discs...?

You need the brake calipers inspecting, the slider pins might need a little lub ..If pins are dry, then it allows the pad or pads to drag on the disc.not fully clearing it as it should do .

Well another 150 miles over the weekend and no squealing. I spoke to the garage were I bought it from and it has had new pads and discs on for its mot so they said if it carries on then it bring it in and they will check it out. So it looks like that may have been the problem and its settled its self down now. So hopefully no more worries. Thanks for the replies and I'm sure I need some help in the future
