Anyone else had this issue and got MB to do it FOC?
Thank you, I've never joined a forum before. My car has 110 K on the clock and bodywork is immaculate. Came as a bit of a shock. According to our local MB specialist, they have seen a few now and also on the C class. There are quite a few pictures on the internet of others but these were in the states. I only found out about it when they were repairing the rear suspension and it was not picked up at the MOT which is shockingWelcome, not looking good my E class is only a year younger how many miles has it done?
I am aware of C classes & SLK's having rust issues with rear subframes, but I think this is the first 212 I have seen.
Lots of very knowledgable guys on here, if you have any issues.Thank you, I've never joined a forum before. My car has 110 K on the clock and bodywork is immaculate. Came as a bit of a shock. I’m fairly sure I know what you’d say to a Rorschach test...
Well you will be pleased to know that MB has agreed to 100% cover the replacement of the whole subframe, which is a releif. they have oredered the parts from Germany but this could take a while at the mo. It's booked in to be done on 11th Jan. I don't know if it is the 30 yr warrenty claim or, I think most likely, they have an issue which they want to keep under wraps. Either way, I am relieved at the outcome. What warranty do you intend on getting that repaired under. The mercedes 30yr.
You will be lucky to prove thats inside out rot.
In the meantime they may offer goodwill on replacement at most.
let us know how you get on.
I live nr Lyme Regis and collect and prepare fossils for a hobby. I do all the work and the one in the photo is from Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis. Took 3 months to prep that one. Do you have an interest in fossils?Welcome fossil buddy , where did you get the ammonites ?
Good idea to keep an eye on it as they rust from the inside outLots of very knowledgable guys on here, if you have any issues.
My 212 is only on 60K miles, we are both retired & I have a motorcycle as well. When I take my 212 for MOT I always take the opportunity to have a good look around underneath when its up on the lift. Not found anything yet.
The Dealer has been very good and handled the MB main dealer for me, and paid to get the suspension sorted. Can't say fairer than that. Had it not been spotted by an MD independent ( for the suspension), the first i would have known about it would be at the next MOT, if they spotted it. Then I would not have even known about a possible warranty claim, so i have been lucky really.Welcome. If Mercedes have serviced it regularly, I’m surprised that wasn’t spotted before. Did the previous owner know about it? Did you buy it from a trader who should have known? If you brought it trade, take it back and get them to sort it.
I think the issue is they rot from the inside so the first you know about it is a hole. My local MB specialist has dealt with quite a few of these now.Lots of very knowledgable guys on here, if you have any issues.

I think if you have regularly wax oyling the subframe you should be ok. Do you live nr the coast?I'm really getting quite worried now...
I have a 2007 C Estate Avantgarde (S203) which I love to bits - it stiill drives like a new car and is properly serviced by my local garage. I bought it in 2013 and had originally intended to move it on and play the market but soon found I had a "keeper" so it's now part of the family! It goes to an Indy for anything my garage suggests should be "Main Dealer" e.g.: Auto Transmission Service so I think I have the best of both worlds.
Since the sub-frame subject reared its disgraceful head they've checked the sub frame for me whenever it goes in for a service and inject some 'goo' as far as possible but who knows what tomorrow may bring?
