If so, roughly what was the cost, please?

Mine on the gearbox went at a very awkward time and my regular garage couldn't do it before the bank holiday, so I got quotes off a couple of other places. Turned out no one could sort it until after the BH, so had to borrow a vehicle and be patient.

Will reveal what the actual bill off my regular place is, and the other quotes, once I see what others have quoted or estimated as the cost. Will say the differences between those I have vary by as much as almost £400!

A manual W124 is a rare thing. But, as Television says, it can't be that hard to change the slave cylinder

Well, hard or not, one place quoted me £120, another £460 (both plus VAT)! My regular place a few pence short of £67 altogether - and including towing the car in and returning it to my door. I couldn't believe the price variations.

Nick, rare or not, I love my old manual W124... will be looking for another when I wear this one out! :D Perhaps one with a bit more power though, to get the loads up the hills. For my purpose, the 200TE feels a bit under powered at times, otherwise it's brilliant.

I've no idea why it was converted, or by which previous owner. It had been off-road moving stored caravans around a farmyard in Wales for four years prior to me getting it. The MOT had always been kept up to date during that time, but there was only about 27 miles added to the clock during that time. Huge gaps in the service history, but at some point it had belonged to someone in the S. E. of England - Surrey/Sussex area, going by a couple of parts invoices that I was given.
