Hi Guys,

Bit of a strange request, but does anyone in and around Portsmouth have a modern (2015 onward) CLS that I could look at.

The reason?

I've decided to sell the E350 coupe - love the car but it is now 8 years old and my wife complains that it's to low and difficult for her to get in and out of (she wants me to get an SUV, but I'm not into those). So, I'm looking at a CLS but it's in Preston - so no chance of popping over for a quick peek. I realy need to demonstrate to the wife that she could easily get in and out of it. Feel a bit cheeky going to a local dealer and faking interest to get to try it. So was wondering if any member lived nearby that I could drive to to try (in a covid safe manner) the wife getting in and out of.

You probably think I'm mad and it makes my wife sound like a right old bat, but a few second of quick demonstration and I think I can convice her.

Any other suggestions gratefully recieved (already contemplated divorce and murder btw and both couldd get a bit messy :)

I think that the CLS is a great choice of car. I know I have only a C200 but given a free choice of MB the 'Modern' CLS is my favourite, it's just too big for my needs, there is only the two of us to consider. Good luck in your search :)

I can't see a CLS being any easier to enter and exit than an E class.

Exactly like above, no difference. Try to adjust her seat as high as possible and maybe will do the trick

I went from an E Coupe to a GLC - if you lose the SUV battle, you and your lady are welcome to try getting in and out of mine. It’s much easier than the E Coupe!

Thanks guys can always rely on you for "helpful advice" :)

The answer ended up being a damn fine hot-pot and a bottle of Rijoca and I now have permission to "go for it".

Wish me luck - it could be a long night :)

I would never change my car for a woman , if she wants to walk . . . . . . I agree with the soft roader if you insist on having a quiet life pal , can not see as any MB other than that will be any different to enter / exit than your coupe which of course have big wide opening doors too

We've just changed from a 2018 E300 coupe to a 2020 CLS350 for the greater convenience of grandchildren. No discernible difference getting in and out of the front seats, obv much easier to access the rear seats although some find the rear door line a bit low due to the coupe body. Definite advantage in being able to open the doors wider in parking spaces as the E300 doors are so long.

What about an S class? get in first and raise the suspension while wifey gets in then drop it back for driving.

I have a 212 E350EDI saloon, & I think it sits a little higher than the Coupe?

I know you don't want to hear this but my CLS seems more difficult to enter or leave than a friends E class.
Mine certainly sits lower and the high window line and low seat certainly feel more sports car like.
On the plus side you do feel more cocooned in the CLS. The doors are much lighter too, being part aluminium and frameless.
If you have Airmatic then it's possible to raise the car 20mm with a button which then, I believe, raises the car to E class height, although I could be wrong. However as soon as you drive it at any speed it lowers itself again.

ps. If you're anywhere near Bedford at any time you're very welcome to try mine. :)
