I have just been quoted a derisory sum of £200 for my car !!!

I mean my sister's A160 which was basically dead as a dodo got her £250 so how the hell can a fully working W140 go for the same price!!!!!!!!!!

Don't take the p***

Honestly , I can see you still posting stuff like this in a years time.

It may be a bitter pill to swallow , but no one wants a base model w140 with issues. There's hardly any around so no one wants the parts , hence why it's not worth much.

On the other hand , there are loads of a classes around and loads of them need parts as they are forever going wrong ! ( believe me , I know lol ) so they are worth more to breakers.

Get rid of it and move on.

Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.

As above

£200 is a good price. You think it's worth £1400 - no-one else does otherwise it would have sold!!!!

Someone wants it either

a) For parts - in which case it's not worth a great deal
or
b) To fix the problems. Given it's worth about £1500 when fixed, and it is clearly a bigish job to fix (otherwise you'd have done it by now) then someone isn't going to pay much for it.....

What are you basing your "I want £1395" actually ON? I mean what have you based this price on? I am seeing really old S- class for a couple of grand when mint and running perfectly, so I'm wondering where you got the figure of nearly £1400 from??

If you want to know it's real worth, list on eBay, list all the faults, start at 99p and put a £600 reserve on it - if it goes beyond that, you really DO want to sell it!
At least this way you'll know what it is truly worth on the open market.

Have you advertised it on gumtree..also these cars are loved in Africa so if you do advertise it for about £600 I think you will sell it.

Hello. I refuse to sell it via e-bay because the f****** take 10% of my fee and then paypal hold my money for 21 days and I am not prepared to go through this again.

I just want my money and the car gone. I am thinking of selling it and not mentioning any of the faults. I may just keep it simple.

E.G. S280, Silver, £1495. Bargain, Quick sale.
Why would I mention faults and shoot my self in the foot metaphorically speaking?

Because that would be immoral , imagine how you would feel if it happened to you.

Besides , the purchaser might google R541 MNK and find this thread, hopefully before parting with any money , or you'd have him all over you.

Annoyed that ebay will rob you of your money, but happy to rob off others by covering up the cars faults, says a lot about you along with most of the rest of your comments.

And what is that supposed to mean? All second hand have faults unless they have been hardly used. All I am doing is selling mine on as is the case in the second hand car business.

The same thing DID happen to me. I bought mine in 2013 and within four weeks Cylinder 4 had started misfiring, the alarm kept going off, my R/C/L packed up (which Malcolm kindly fixed for me), my anti-roll bars needed replacing as well as did my coil pack two times (which didn't solve any misfire issue), the radio stopped working costing me £160 to replace, my HT leads and spark plugs were replaced (which didn't solve any misfire issue), my heater blower was replaced twice (and still isn't fully functioning) and now my O2 sensor has a fault !!!!!!!

Based on this I was sold the car immorally wasn't I ? And I know how this feels because it HAS happened to me!!!

So because you've had a problem or (as you feel) been ripped off - it's ok to do it to someone else.

I'm sorry I've given you good advice now, I hope you hold out for your £1400 and still have the car in 10 years time!

If you DO sell it without declaring the faults, I sincerely hope that the buyer gives you hell after the sale, because as mentioned before, if he googles the reg he'll be able to see that you did not sell it "in good faith" but rather misrepresented the car, which is fraud and is not just a civil matter.

Judging by the dents and the misfire yours has been well used.

My offer still stands though.

Based on this can I prosecute the person who sold me the car then? Because I bought the car under misrepresentation if you want to be pedantic.

So cylinder 4 was working when you bought it ? As was the central locking , and the radio ?

You replaced the coil packs ( twice ) and your spark plugs and your HT leads in an attempt to cure the misfire that began during your ownership ?

Sensors fail , that's life.

And you were ripped off how ?

If you genuinely believe that you are going to make back anywhere near a grand , you seriously need to sit down with a cup of tea and have a long hard think about things.

Personally , I'd take nicks offer.

I feel I was ripped off because a car of this calibre shouldn't have all these faults "appear" in less than 4 weeks of ownership surely?

And yes I can vouch that this car was in full working order when I bought it. I don't see what you are trying to suggest here?

Are you saying I am lying/exaggerating???

'Car of this calibre' ... It's a 17 year old car ! Fair enough if you'd bought it new , but not 17 years down the line.

So you swear it was all in full working order when you bought it , how have you been ripped off then ?

I'm saying that it appears your elevator doesn't go to the top floor.

If you had bought it brand new I would be inclined to agree, but,

-you bought a working car that's 16 years old
-it went wrong during your ownership
-you cant fix it
-its now worth a lot less than what you paid
-get over it, stop making stupid comments on a forum about it and move on.

All H is saying is stuff happens.

If cylinder 4 was working when you bought it, then it is unlikely the previous owner had covered it up...ask yourself how he could possibly have done that.
