I have a 1994 280W124 estate, 120k miles, fully stamped up svc book. Recently (last 10k miles maybe) the car has developed the following behaviour : -

- when reaching a stop the car feels like it's attempting to continue to drive itself forward, not in a continuous push but in a series of small 'lurches'

- the idle rate dips with each attempted lurch forward.

I have taken to putting the box to N (neutral) in order to prevent this. Could anybody tell me what is happening please, and what steps would likely be needed to fix it ?

Thanks

Jason

If member kth286 reads this I have noticed great expertise around gearbox-related issues - and wonder if he might be able to comment on my own problem. I'm located near to Reading myself .....

The only fault listed that I can find is "variations in friction value on brake band 2" Answer, Change to a different oil in box = drain 5 liters and add 5 liters of new oil, percentage of new oil should only be appr 70%. No longer use ATF with number 001 989 07 03/11 New oil 001 989 23 03/11.

What is the normal idle speed in D and N
