Dear Sirs
I own a 320 CLK Automatic Coupe, registered in April 2003 which has just done 60.000 miles. Being a lady owner I do not thrash the car and I have just found out that my gear box needs replacing - obviously a very expensive part.
I am asking if there are any inherent problems that could cause my gear box to give up? I have heard that the anti freeze from the radiator does leak into the gear box oil and therefore can create problems that could result in this happening.
I also understand that the gear box oil should be replaced over 36,000 miles and the question I am asking is if the garage who have serviced the car regularly (a Mercedes dealer) should know to do this and if they have not then have I got a case against them or, at the very least, should they help me towards the cost of this gear box?
This is an urgent request - can anybody out there help a lady owner who has no idea with regard to the inside of a car.
Respond soon.
Many thanks.
