OK, this appears to be the first problem with my C320 (2001). It's been happening intermittently for the last few days.

Not been able to select D (Drive).

The times that it has occured, I've either had to restart engine, changed to another gear (i.e. reverse) then back or sometimes waiting for a bit then re-tried. Most of the time, i've had to quickly move off because I've been in the middle of the road after reversing for example, so randomly tried different things and eventually after 10-15 secs managed to enagage D and drive off.

Anyone experienced similar problems and/or have any advice?

Many thanks

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Will it engage in other forward gear positions, 4 3 2 1 for instance?

It's a 5 speed triptronic gear box. I can't test any other gears without it being on D right???

R has always been OK.

Your fault will be adjustment of the electronic selctor module, you do need access both above and under the car to adjust.

Hi Malcolm,

What leads you to this conclusion? Have you seen / experienced this before?

Also is this a quick fix best done by MB?

Thanks

Just been reading it up,the adjustment is quite critical.
When you start off from park and go to D the lever travels further than it does from R to D, going from R to D is not quite far enough to engage the D.

You can test this out very simply. ´The next time it does it,do not turn off the engine,go to P and then back to D, if all is OK that is the problem.

Not easy to adjust as the center console has to come out to get to the module.
An indie could do it if they had the correct info.

Let us know after the test the next time. malcolm
