Auto gearbox not shifting gears

Hi all out there,
Wonder if anyone can help or point me in the right direction.
I have a 230TE est 1992 and it has just recent;y developed this intermittant fault.When driving the car under like cruising throttle it will start to slow down and when more throttle is applied the engine does not respond it is only when given full throttle ( kickdown ) that the box changes and the engine revs, it will then change up. Thissometimes lasts for a while or after changing up the box it slows down again and the engine will only respond to kick down. hiscan happen at any road speed but mainly below 50mph. Is this a box or engine problem , or maybe even electrical any help appreciated

Does this car have an electrical throttle, or is it purely mechanical?

as far as I m aware it is purely mechanical it has fuel injection if this helps answer your question , or tell me what to look for to asertain if it has an electrical throttle ?

If it's a 230 it's all mechanical & simple. I;d take it to your local independent specialist for a diagnosis

If you don't know a local indie post up your location and I'm sure someone can recommend one

£198 for an A service???? this place is expensive. MB charge £220 for A service so why would you go to non MB for £20

I am sure there are others around that area

I know nothing about this operation, they were just mentioned on another forum

Remember though, that an indie service will do all that MB will do, and probably be more thorough, wheras MB if it says don't take the wheels off on the sheet, they won't. So if your pads only have 1000miles left on them, you'll be back there pretty soon.

I think my problem has been cured, I changed the primary fuel pump and the car has not had the symtoms back since. I took the car to Eurocars in Hertford and they diagnosed low fuel pressure and not holding the pressure. :smile:
