auto gearbox problem 300ce 24v

Has anyone had a problem with this 5 speed box? :cry:

Mine will not change up into 5th and has no other symptoms, noise or anything to suggest a fault.........except it will not change into 5th!

Any help appreciated as my mechanic is just dying to remove the box and strip the box, for a hefty price of course.

I have the same car, and had several little symptoms that did not seem like much at the time leading up to gearbox failure, smoke, long wait for the AA and a hefty repair bill:

Clutch slipping in kick-down
Jerky first to second gear
Gear not changing down from 5th into 4th.

My advise would be to check the colour of the ATF - this should be RED, mine was BLACK and also check the level. Don't leave it too late as I did! (most recent quote for repair (new box): £4500!)
