Auto gears jumping W126

Hi All,

I have a problem with gears jumping up and down.
It seems to happen mainly at about 55-65mph, with or without cruise control on.
The gears will jump from 4th to 3rd, back to 4th, back to 3rd etc. Maybe 3 or 4 times.
Acceleration clears it.
Kicking down seems to clear it for a short while.
The car is a little jumpy both pulling away and in reverse, otherwise quite smooth changes.

W126 S320 1992 50k miles
Gearbox oil recently changed

Is a recon gearbox required or some other adjustment necessary?

Hello and welcome. Nice cars the 126. This does sound a little like torque converter problems you could check that the vacuum pipes are all in place and not leaking.
