51 plate 320 CDI, I hate to go over this again but I'm told my box does not have a drain plug and I don't fancy putting 4 litres of expensive merc atf in with the three litres of dirty old oil in the torque converter, I would have thought there was some way of getting the oil out of the torque converter at the same time as draining the oil pan. Somebody mentioned about a gearbox oilchanger, anybody know what this is and where one can be found? Last time I changed oil in a transmission I disconnected the pipe to the oil cooler after draining the box and refilling. Then I started the car and let it idle, during this time it pumped oil from the disconnected pipe and I replaced the dirty oil litre by litre until the oil started to flow clean from this pipe. Anybody tried this method? regards AA1

My E320CDi will be coming up to 60K in a years time and so I too am thinking about the mix of old and new fluid.

I've decided to change what can be removed from the pan and oil cooler, this will obviously dilute old with new and improve the situation and then 30K later do the same again.

The 124 auto trans oil changes were at 36K so nothing lost really.

I cahnged mine at 140,000 old oil was still very clean, so used the dilution method. I did find the gearchange to be worse after changing fluid (i had had the battery disconnected) it took some time to re-adapt itself (especially 1st to 2nd when cold) but is now superb again.
