Whilst refurbishing the self levelling valve on my 123 series 1981 230TE I noticed that the inner cv boot had a split in it and needs replacing. The Haynes manual was quite helpful regarding the removal of the shaft but suggested that the replacement of the rubber boot should be referred to a MB service shop as it required specialist tools.

In my experience on other vehicles the specialist tools referred to were normally one or all of the following. Circlip pliers, hammer, vice. I know that there is a puller which obviously makes life easier, but is it essential? I would appreciate any advice from anyone who has done this job before.

Hi Tim

If I were you I would get my self down to the breakers (one of the few times I will recommend them) and get my self another shaft. Its just not worth the hassle. Get yourself another shaft and fit it. Rather than the hassle of chaging gaitors. Must admit I have never replaced one my self. Nobody ever invested in the tooling.

PS.Unless somebody out there knows different!!??!?!?!?
