Me -2019 GLC 350 coupe AMG line. Mrs- ford kuga 65 plate awd powershift .
Also, on the oil filter for this car...I seem to have received a plastic screw with a rubber washer in it.

I thought when the car has an oil change it just needs the copper washer replaced on the screw...

Possibly a plastic sump ?

Price update for anybody who’s interested...

Front lower arm is £100 from Euros or £210 from main dealer.
Fittings can be reused from the old arm

£65 with code . Star line brand ??? Really .

Yeah that’s what the dealer told me, only one way to find out!

On a better note, just changed the air filter and dust filter. Surprisingly simple job for a noob!

I wasn’t sure if code was applicable for this but thanks for heads up. If I end up getting it done I’ll check on that

Put a very thick lucas industrial/marine grease in.
Due to lack of clearance the nipple was replaced with a flush screw.
Silent now, but for how long?

Wow...looks complicated. Thanks for the detail. I’ll have to wait for my breaker bar before getting the wheel off and see what’s going on there

Just keep in mind, super cheap arms from Euros don't last anything like as long as MB oem.

you need a vice . The wider end of the gaiter retains easily on a lip.
The fiddly on is the narrow end, it has a metal band (bit like key ring size) you seat gaiter in a recess on ball joint shaft low down. This recess is deeper to ease fit. Put band on, slide banded gaiter up to final position.

The metal band( has to be correct way) up as shaped. To get gaiter end thru band i use thick string wrapped bout 1.5 times around. Keep pushing band on an peel /pull string ends and pregressively flips gaiter over metal band. Now tease up to final resting groove/recess for use. Done.

Fiddly. Bit like how they used to put windscreens in with thick cord around the rubber gasket around the window edge and squirt of lube.

Only for garage mechs/hobbyists/tightwads, like me! Everyone else has to drop em at the dealer and not blub.

We have replacement boots and the tools to fit but some of the later boots are peened in, so can’t be secured with a clip.

There is a vast amount of these going wrong at 40k miles up. The ball joints on my last car have done 260k miles and are still going!
Some say they are cast into the arm.
I think they are pressed in.

Think that's somehow too much for a ball joint, and an arm that I didn't need quick ebay search for my MG shows from 12 to 20 quid for a circlip retained replaceable ball joint.

Merc just want to cost reduce assy time.
So there are 2 ball joints and 2 bushes in one throw away arm.
There will be a replacement ball joint out there that will fit these. Plus a way to pull the old one and press the new one.

Only way I see to improve odds there. Drill /fit grease nipple before fitting replacement arm. And that's If there is enough material to securely tap for nipple threads?
