I thought I spotted a once in a lifetime bargain on my dream car - advertised at £12,299 by Listers. I contacted them by their online chat. Unfortunately this was an "administration error" and the correct price is £122,999. Never mind

Obviously a cock-up, but can you not claim it for that, if it's advertised at that price. Didn't that used to be your rights?

No. An advertised price is "an offer to treat" and not legally binding on the seller -the seller does not have to sell for the price advertised. Sometimes they will sell for an erroneously advertised price as a "goodwill" gesture though - but unfortunately not on this occasion.

If you had done buy it now and transferred that sum of money that would have been different and they would have been required to sale agreement
Is that right?

Unfortunately the website doesn't allow payments. If you click on "buy it now" it just gives you an enquiry form to complete

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....

No, still not true. If you clicked buy it now and transferred the money they could still legitimately cancel it.

If however they signed the order form at that price, THEN you have a contract and that's different - and some of these websites will "auto accept" and generate a contract automatically - if you then paid a deposit, you'd have offer / acceptance and consideration - basically a contract.

If you want a real "bargain" (and you're prepared to take the risk) check out the used prices on a 1 year old EQS. Even from main dealers, they've lost £30k -£40k in a year!! You can pick one up for under £70k on a car with a £110k list price.
