Funny that this thread is next to buying a car from Northern Ireland as my spider was first registered in Ireland and still has irish plates although it has a uk reg doc. In 1976 they (Alfa) stopped importing spiders to UK and only started again after it was revised with rubber bumpers and fuel injection. They continued to import a few into Ireland after that and mine is one of them. Bell and Colville in Surrey also continued to import some after that but they were LHD which Bell and Colville converted. So I claim to have one of the very last RHD, chrome bumper carburettor spiders and with only 56,000 miles probably one of the lowest milage ones of that type still around. I bought it from Bell and Colville about 27 years ago and they restored it for me then and its had no paint or body work since so it must have been a pretty good restoration. I have done bits to the engine though including higher cams and bigger carbs.

I'll have to work on that. I have some JPEG's but I need to sort out a hosting site to get them up on here. Used to do that when I was on the FTO site a lot but that was a while ago.

Why would you think that?

Another shot of the FTO and Alfa combined.
I'm struggling to find any images of the Alfa on file and its too cold and the car is too dirty to take any today.

The FTO was a bit of an obsession at the time. It was one of only 200 official Ralliart imports and had only done 8,000 miles when I bought it when it was 2 years old in standard GPX form. I did many mods to it too many to list on here. It was immaculate and was a very enjoyable owning experience. The best bit by far was the sound that the MIVEC V6 engine made on full song especially with the induction kit and custom decated stainless steel exhaust shown below.

Well I did take a few pickies in the end. The car has just been sitting in the garage all winter and I haven't even bothered to put the cover over it this year so it is really dusty. however here are a few shots.

This is the engine bay (duhh). Note the two twin choke 45 DCOE Webbers which are an upgrade. Also the twin servos which they had at the time.

Campagnolia wheels are rare and original and the tyres are Pirelli P6 which as also vintage. Note brake discs are drilled and grooved with braided hoses. Brakes have been a challenge on the car and i have spent lots on callipers, master cylinders etc over the years and they are still not great.

Inside is pretty standard apart from the carpet upgrade as the original had rubber inside. Wooden steering wheel and gearstick are a nice touch.

Rear is standard apart from the tailpipe which enthusiasts will note is not turned down as per original. That is because it has a sports exhaust with one less silencer than the original - pre cat days of course.

Your Spider is a thing of beauty Neil, thanks for posting.
How do you rate the drive over the Fulvia? I hear that the Fulvia is pretty good.

Gosh that was a very long time ago. 1980 or so. It was a 1.3 Rallye S metalic blue with cream leather interior VPC 420M if I remember correctly. Did a lit of spirited miles in that when I lived in Weybridge. It was a V4 and reved a bit more than the Alpha and I remember diving it pretty hard in the day. Body work wasn't geat and I gave it a full respray but a couple of years later when I sold it the bubbles were starting to come back. Oh and it had a webasto full length sunroof. The Alfa is significantly more powerful thanks to the size of the engine and what I've done to it.

car is very nice. those 45 DCOE's are even nicer though.

i know fuel injection is more efficient, but carbs are more fun and SOUND much better, especially THOSE types of carbs!!!! reminds me of the lotus elan/cortina set-up........
