I have a 90 e300 with a 3.0 and the other day it would not start as if the battery was low which in fact it was. My brother said I should try to turn the alternator pulley with the belt still on to see if it would spin and with "some" effort it did. I changed the belt and saw in the owners manual that it was tightened by an "automatic tensioner." I am still able to spin the alternator pulley with some effort and am concerned the tensioner is going bad. I also saw somewhere that the auto tensioner can be adjusted. Could it need adjustment? Is this a difficult repair job? The most major repair I have done is timing belts on FWD Toyota V6s but I'm new to the world of Mercedes. The tensioners field of movement is minimal and it seems as if it should move more than it does. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am assuming this is a dealer item if needed?
