due to this club i am now putting 200cc's of 2t oil every time i fill up my e300. td. some german scientist has posted a very plausible theory on pump lubrication and improved valency and combustion, he also says the low sulphur diesel fuel does not lubricate the works, from fuel pump to vales etc. i think most "petrol heads" / "diesel heads" like to think this is doing us and our cars a lot of good, the "plasebo effect". the actual scientific benefits are always a bit grey but the assonance with the car owner is for all to see. it's like using "waxoil" knowing your pride and joy will never go rusty. herbiemercman.

That makes good sense to me Ian, with a CDI even better owing to the higher pressures involved

R230...about to purchase will update shortly
Slightly off thread, but of course the one thing no one has yet mentioned in all this is that if you want to do a few extra MPG - make sure your tyres are at the optimum pressures. Ive noticed on runs down the M4 that checking they are all set for up for a high speed cruise makes a marked difference without resorting to V-Power etc. I read recently that somebody had designed a tyre valve that will keep your tyres at a preset pressure by using the spinning of the wheels to act as a pump -lets hope it makes it into production.
The other more longer term action - which Ive done on two V6 Fords I owned was to change all the HT leads, which instantly made the car far more responsive and smooth - and this lasts longer than one tank! Though Im baulking at the cost of 16 leads (and plugs) for my beast! But as its celebrating its 11th birthday this week I may bite the bullet!
