been to see the guys at STAR in Reading Berks twice in last few weeks.

They have all the gear and not afraid / have the equipment to stick their kit on and kick / sort strange foibles in software with the help from Germany

I'll be back !!! ;)

Good to know.
They do come highly recommended on here. I am all for supporting independent businesses who do a good job - so good heads up. Then again slating crap service.

What was the issue with the car?

Ian and the guys are brilliant, just wish I actually lived that way still I’d have no hesitation in them looking after my cars

check this strange one out (needed a bit of translation....) it wasn't what we were working on but very odd 13 years after they built it, I now seem to have a bit of coding right

ever since I had the car the rear window blind reports an error in diagnostics but has-worked normally

"9131 Hall Sensor of component M24 (rear window blind motor) is faulty."

07 March 2019 had the R Sam updated by SCN and it finished up stating:

SCN 2219024903-15-0032
The following coding was successfully transferred
Rear Window Defroster
ATA National variant coding
ATA Volume control : Warning Buzzer
Equipment version
Flashing Stop Lamp
Voltage at component Reversing lamp

We just re did the SCN on the Rear SAM and MAGICALLY it noticed its been forgetting set up for the rear blind whilst updating....
(Very odd it didn't get that when done on March 2019)

SCN 2219024903-90-001V
The new coding has changed compared to the original coding

Changed coding
VCD_Parameterisation Rear Blind - Hr initialisation: not initialised (initialised)

(actually in german it said....)
VCD_Parametrierung Heckrollo - Hr Intialisierung: nicht initialisiert (intialisiert)

Great!

I always travel for a good indy. Due to the good reputation STAR has on the forum, I'll be travelling to them from Nottingham to have my next service and gearbox oil changed in 2021 when lockdown allows. They quoted a perfectly acceptable price for the job.

Have you used MB Centre out near the racecourse, they’re the guys I use for everything, the owner Steve is passionate about Mercedes too,

I use MercServ for things I can’t DIY or just can’t be bothered to do. Got the last service done there and they are decent. Always watched them and had a bit of banter over the years whilst having work done at the Volvo garage that used to be next door and MercServ are decent. However, they said to leave the gearbox alone but, at 70,000 miles now and I want to know the gearbox oil is done and done right even if all is well.

I’ve heard of MB Centre but not used them.

I’ve have the guys at MB centre do everything for mine over the years now, they did ATF on the 212 and although not much difference (previous owner also had it done at 45k) I know in my mind it will be maintained, their thinking on mechanics is a little more old school and they don’t mind digging into things to get a root cause.
