18's at the very most, 19's may be too uncomfortable, while 17's won't really fill the wheel arches, what designs are you looking at?.

From new they came with 16" or 17" , you can go to 18" as noops says, what ever you do make sure the the wheels are made for MB, otherwise you will never be able to balance them.

If you are going for the classic merc styles then it has the AMG's, Carlssons or Brabus you can't really go wrong with them. I was looking at Brabus for myself but I've decided that I want the car looking as original as possible so I am going for 18 inch AMG Style II. Which Slk have you got?.

Yes, the wheels must be made for MB, also our cars have an off set, this is the amount that the wheel exceeds over the center of the hub, and has an ET number, the ET is cast into the rear of your wheels and also stated in your handbook, as the size of the wheel increases, the ET number comes down.
You could look on Ebay germany go to

http://motors.ebay.de/

Wheels in German = felgen , you will see it on the left half way down, then enter MB and do a search, there are many others there all OK for your car, if you need any more help, just ask.

Don't you also need to change the tyres if you fit larger wheels? So as to keep the rolling radius the same (circumference effectively or you affect gearing etc.). Bigger wheels mean lower profile tyres, poorer ride and more chance of curbing the wheels as the alloys are nearer the ground. Can, of course. change style without altering size but if it's the bigger wheel look you want that won't help. If you want some wheels that really have some flash about them try this link: - :D :D :D

sorry but they spend millions making the "look" right, why mess with it.

I may be wrong but the blacked out windows the after market alloys all look silly, it's like the 18 year old in his glanza with neon lights. You've got a 3 pointed star riding about 5 feet in front of you face, let the kid in the golf get his ego boost by overtaking ya, keep up with him, slap the tiptronic thingy down twice floor it and show him what a real car can do, understated, easy and fun, you can still be a kid, I sadly still pet mine before going to bed, love it, never thought I would but do. Annoys me messing with good design (working in the design industry for teh past 20 years).

Ok rant over, it's late, I'm drunk, out with the bro and parents, WORK in the morning, god help me.

I couldn't agree more, however if we all wanted the same it would not be much fun, so pls (IMHO) ruin your car

Also came with original MB centre caps, I'm v. chuffed they look the business on my 99t c220!

well its also worth pointing out that putting bigger wheels/tyres has an effect on accelaration/fue economy etc etc.

Putting bigger rims and tyres can actually make the car slower and also destroy the balance of a car.

Not quite true, if used with the correct ET, and the diameter overall stays the same.

wheels

Taste is an individual thing. The multi-spoke Carlssons look superb, have seen them fitted. reading all the comments I look forward to posting some pics of my SL when finished. Bigger split rims (to replace those awful originals that look like they came off a MEGANE-sorry renault fans-, replaced the 'BUS' steering wheel, upgraded ICE (stealth install), stainless exhaust, alloy gearknob and plenty more. Look forward to all the anti comments!!

Enjoy your SLK, nothing like making your personal merc 'personal'. :D

Look forward to the pictures, being an SL fan, still interesting with wheels, they can and do make or break a car.

Can't wait to see your pics rocket!!!! Quite right, current wheels look 'meganey'. surely our lovely cars deserve more??? And yes, wouldn't it be such a boooring, plain world if we all liked the same things, whats wrong with exploration and individuality? And as for MB spending millions for their cars to look right, well, it may look right to them, but may not to us!!!
And it's us who count!!!! (I think)
