Hi,
Does anyone know what impact the new UK blend of unleaded/bioethanol fuel would have on different generations of petrol engine? I'm thinking about older cars, but I've no idea what damage, if any, it could do to modern engines.
The UK government plan is that unleaded is sold with 5% bioethanol included in it. The idea being that 5% of all petrol comes from renewable crop sources, less oil dependence etc. Sounds interesting, but I was a little less impressed when I also read that to fill the tank of a large car once with biofuel needs the equivalent crop that would feed one person for a year. The new blended fuel should be starting to roll out this year.
I travel a lot to the US and I've noticed more and more pumps there with warning notices that the gas contains a percentage of bioethanol. I don't know if this is intended to be a disclaimer for damage, or a warning for users of older cars not to use it. Anyone on line from the US that could help with some insights on what we can expect when it rolls out in the UK?
Diesel blended with biodiesel is probably ok?
Ta,
John
