I haven't used my W124 (3L, 1991, 24valve) for more than 2 years.
I charged the battery. The car did not start, but when I turn the switch to ON, both signal indicators are turned on simultaneously. They continue flashing for a short while after turning the key to OFF position.
I turned the hazard light on and off, it didn't make a difference.
The flashing is similar to having the hazard light on, but at a different flashing rate.
I assume it is telling me of a fault. Any idea what?

Faulty or still low battery, perhaps a cell has gone down..

Thank you for the reply. The battery is in good condition, fully charged and the correct rating (AH) for the car. It is from my other car.

Thank you for the reply. Do you mean a faulty alarm? (The alarm did not sound and the switch was in the ignition)
I know that the relay for the alarm can stick on some cars .... just a guess

Soooo if they continue flashing after you turn the ignition key to the off position, that means they are getting some power from somewhere.
I think that definitely points to the car security alarm system siren as that has a battery in it that leaks with age.

Thank you. Is that battery rechargeable?
The car is 30 years old and the alarm battery has never been changed.
The car has not been used for few years and the main battery has been disconnected. I put a new main battery yesterday.

Normally yes, but as Matt says above, they can leak with age & cause problems ..... on the Omega I used to have, they were known to cause fires!

I think that the battery in the alarm module is soldered in. It usually damages the pcb when it leaks. A new module is around £100 from MB..straight swap, plug and play..
