Bought Mercedes, duplicate service book..

Hi guys.
So I bought a cat N Mercedes A class 2017 plate after a full hpi was carried out. MOT checks out fine and other checks also fine. had minor damage to front bumper and side wing. All fixed now by the garage.

Checked out the car which was fine.
The car came with a MB service book with the word “duplicate” punched through every page. it contained two MB stamps with mileage and date and a final stamp of the garage where I got the car from.

Is having a duplicate book going to be an issue?

Furthermore , the car did not come with a fancy folder containing paper work and manual etc. Only a MOT report and the mentioned service book. I asked the seller why there was no folder with the car. He said Mercedes now do not give them anymore as the manual is uploaded in the software found in the car and I can access it all from there.

Is this true?

A 2017 car would not have a service book with it from new. They are indeed DSB, or digital service book. There is nothing to stop an owner buying an old fashioned book from Mercedes, but they always come perforated "duplicate" all the way through. Sometimes this is done if they don't want to go to a dealer or specialist with DSB access so a record of maintenance can be kept.

The lack of a manual really annoys me when I hear about it! What in the hell do we previous owners or dealers do with them? I’ve fortunately never experienced it.
However there will likely be a digital version loaded into your Comand system so not all is lost. You can also download from a number of (predominantly) US sites via google

Are you able to share how to access the history via comand? Or indeed the online sites? (I have googled and cannot find anything)

Sorry no- not history just the owners manuals. Sadly Mercedes don't store the history on the car (or at least not accesible to us mere mortals), BMW do.....

My 2018 car came with a proper, old fashioned, full paper manual but perhaps the A Class doesn’t as it’s aimed at a younger market. Personally, I prefer to use the Mercedes Guides app version which is easier to search.

Any Mercedes dealer should be able to give you a print out of the Digital Service Book for your car if you can prove to them that you own it (V5 Reg document and photo I/d). I would question the authenticity of any paper record with alleged Mercedes stamps.

my 14v plate came with a paper manual too, but it frequently refers you to the digital version that's loaded onto COMAND for more detail

Bought my 2011 E350CDI in early 2012 from a MB dealer, it was their demo car. No service book but I keep the service sheet each year which has all the services listed on an attached sheet.

Ah, I definitely got the wrong end of the stick there! Thought there was a magic site which would allow access to service history, wishful thinking I guess! I think I read what I wanted to read!

I read somewhere that MB stamps can be purchased online and used on duplicate MB service books...
When one obtains the duplicate service book, do MB fill in the past service history before handing it to the owner or is it given blank ?

I am asking because I want to know how I can find out if this duplicate stamped service book is authentic or not.

As I said before, ask your local Mercedes dealer for a print out of the Digital Service Book. That will show you when Mercedes serviced the car.

If they are main dealer stamps you have a couple of options. Check on the DSB to see if the services are recorded or ring the dealer whose name is on the stamp and ask them
