Brake 'holding' - how do you do it?

How do you get the brakes to hold on when you stop ? (obvious replies of 'keep your foot on the pedal' not required thank you!)
I've been shown how to do it and have actually done it myself a couple of times but can't get it to work. Can someone please let me in to the technique. What I've been doing is pumping the brake pedal, without letting the car move, then pumping again, but I can't get the display to come up to say the brakes are 'holding' and I can release the pedal. The feature does work on my car as I've been shown how to do it but I just can't replicate it!

Did manage to change the time on the clock this morning though!;)

Brake normally. Once stopped, pump the pedal a little harder once (don't release first, just press harder then release). SBC Hold will come up on the display. Then same again or just accelerate to go again.

On the subject, does anyone know when SBC hold was introduced?
I have it on mine, but my Dad doesn't. Both 211's but mine is 2yrs younger.

Very interesting, thanks Malcolm.

P.S. I'm now approx 50% successful in making "SBC hold' work! Obviously more practice required!!

I've just read through the various articles. Any idea why it was deleted from the E class in mid 2006? Seems like a good idea but adds complexity.

People didn't like the buzzing basically. They do have a point, it is a bit rough for a merc, though I do like the hold. My Dad's 2002 has SBC but no hold function as it's an early E. According to the paper, it should therefore have SBC Stop instead. Something to do with the cruise lever apparently. Does anyone know how this operates or whether this was deleted with an update?
Looking at the photo in the link - I want to know what Bosch were doing slinging my car around a frozen field!

A genral veiw was that it was fitted to cars before all of the imperfections had been ironed out, this cant be the case though, or any noise issues as is it is still used on the flagship S,SL,CL cars, it must be a price thing.

I knew there was something missing. I was shown this on my CLK test drive but couldn't make it work when I finally got the car on my own, so I assumed that I had recalled it incorrectly and must have been thinking of the parking brake or something. I tried this technique of pushing the brake all the way down and it works, no rolling.

But what I don't get is that it doesn't take the form described here. There's no "SBC hold" message and it's not in the list of models in the link given above.

It isn't fitted to the 220 series.

Television posted a link on the first page of this thread which lists the models with SBC.

W/S211 E-Class (until recent facelift)
C219 CLS
C199 SLR
W/V240 Maybach
R230 SL

SBC was dropped from the facelifted E-Class as DaimlerChrysler had to issue 2 recalls to correct problems with it. As the E-Class is a volume model this was very expensive. The remaining models are relatively low volume so will continue with SBC.

OK SBC hold and stop was only brought into service from 03 onwards, it may be on the earlier cars and not activated. I will post again on the subject
