Brakes callipers name plate

Brake calliper front ,Mercedes press on name plate ,E class 2015 Does it serve a porpoise to the brakes or is it only there for show ? Thanks

No, it doesn’t serve a dolphin at all… you can get the stickers, paint the callipers and then put the stickers on If you don’t have them from Mercedes originally.

the name itself doesn't serve a porpoise but the plate it's stuck to does. It has the anti-rattle clips fastened to it

Hi The whole plate is missing told you can not buy plates separately you need to buy the whole callipers.Can you run without plates or should I insist the whole callipers are replaced ,costly.Bought car from Mercedes’ Thanks

the anti rattle clip on one of my front callipers was broken and the subsequent ticking and clunking noise drove me to despair!
I’ve recently fixed it and to be honest, I don’t recall if the push in plate was actually relevant to the calliper’s function other than cosmetic finish?
I painted the ‘body’ of the calliper whilst doing the brakes - they are visible through the wheels, and it’s tidied up the appearance a bit.
Given that the vendor is a dealer I’d insist that the callipers (brakes) were complete and therefore ‘safe’ - who knows what has been done prior?

I have a w212 with the single piston caliper on the front if this is the same as yours. The dark, flat metallic plate with Mercedes Benz on is made by TRW and has a TRW part No. stamped on the back, but it's not available separately and if you contact TRW they will act as if you are mad and asking them to explain why the moon is made of cheese.

For the calipers I have, the plate is cosmetic only, and it's either source some plates someone else has had knocked up, get some made yourself, or buy a new caliper.

Hi TRW tells me can’t get name plate callipers are made for them in a factory in France and sent directly to Mercedes Factory.Does anybody know name of factory in France?Or the number stamped on back of plates?Thanks

You won't have any luck. I chased this down before. I even mentioned the green aspect of being force down a caliper purchase vs replacement plate and pointed out that this is totally opposite to the Daimler environmental policy that is supposed to be applied internally (I worked for a supplier, and the policy was flowed to us and we had to adhere to it). It seemed like Merc weren't at all interested in taking it seriously and the person I spoke too wasn't even aware of the group policy (that suppliers get smashed for breaching, yet the Daimler group hadn't heard of it).

The best option would be to find a local metal working specialist and get some made up. I'd take a couple for circa £50 the pair if a group buy was organised.
