Hi, my "brake wear, visit garage" warning just came on.:(

My car is an 2003 E320cdi, its still under warrenty cos i bought it from a dealer november 2006 from main dealer.

Is it ok to take to an independent garage to do them, will the SBC brakes be an issue at an independent?

Can someone Please recommend a good merc specailist garage in nw london?

Also one more question, i have done around 5000 miles since i bought it, its a used example from a main dealer, should they have changed the brakes before they have sold it to on me? considering they must have been very worn?

Your brake pads must have been on the low side, sinse they go for 15-25k .
I have seen somewhere that they should be no more than 50% worn.

Any indie can do it, I posted on how to do it without Star diagnosis recently.

I would have a go at the dealer who sold it to you in the first place.

I would certainly call the dealer and ask what their limit is for brakes. They will have a formal laid out limit under which they replce without question. I had a service and 2 tyres replaced automatically when I bought mine as they were under spec. That said, I also returned a C class a few years ago when I discovered the tyres were well worn on delivery so they sometimes cut corners. 5K is tricky though - it depends on whether you've done 5k in London traffic or 5k on the motorways.
