Good evening,

long story short, was out for fuel earlier and kept my face mask stored in the cup holder area. I opened the lid of the holder and realised my mask appeared stuck on the charging socket. I gave it a little pull side to side and it came free. Never noticed anything at first then went to close the lid only for it to pop back open. Repeated the process a few times and looked inside the cup holder and found a metal rod with a small bend at the end.

I assume this is the slow release/locking pin that has either come lose or broken thanks to my face mask.

Anyone got any idea as to what’s broken/how to fix this. Please see pictures for reference.

Thanks in advance,

Gerard

If I get a chance later, I’ll have a look at mine and see if I can see where the pin goes. As you probably know, the cup holder is removable. I don’t suppose it has been pulled out of place by the face mask and is stopping the lid closing? Perhaps just needs pushing back down?

Definitely not the cup holder. Is it normal that the lid kind of clicks when you push it down when it shuts? I’m not even getting that click.

Yes, the lid does kind of click when it shuts and when you push down to open it.

I have had a good look round in my storage cubby hole and can’t see any sign of a metal pin like the one in your photo. None of the hinge workings are on show. There's nothing in the cup holder either unless it is part of one of the springs that grips the cups but it looks too long for that (and, if it was, it wouldn’t stop the lid shutting properly anyway).

Sorry!

If you’re still within your three years' warranty, I would get the dealer to look at it and casually forget to mention the bit about the mask!

I would be tempted to look at one of the online parts diagrams for the C300 cup holder. This will show what the components are.

So, I managed to get the Ashwood trim off the lid (it slides off with a bit of force). This revealed all the workings of the springs for the lid. Turns out the pin is the locking pin for the lid. Was simple enough to figure out where it went once the wood trim was off.

Thanks for the help anyway though.... saved myself a trip to the garage!

Hello Gerard, sorry to bother you, you did ever get the cup holder lid? I did exactly the same as you yesterday and found the small L shaped pin and have no clue how to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated

Did you read post 6? The Op slid the trim off and reinserted the pin.

Hello Peter, thanks for reply, I am just not very technically minded in how to fix this problem. First time i have owned a Mercedes and don't want to attempt something in case i damage the car.

I understand what you mean:). I guess it's just a question of gripping the surface and pulling . One trick I learned was to look on Ebay for the component involved and often you will see from close up photos how the thing fits together. Hope you can sort it! These cubby hole type lids have ridiculously intricate workings and are prone to falling apart!
