Thanks for the great advice everyone. So I'm better off getting either the less powerful SL350 or an SLK?

I like the SL as it's bigger but the SLK could be an option too as long as it's not too cramped inside
I would sit in an SLK- far too cramped for me, but I'm 6'2".

You must be a different 6’2” to my son then :D

He has long legs but his back is the same length as mine
I am 6' and my daughter has the R171 SLK, I have driven and like both but the SL is a lot more comfortable mainly due to the width of the cabin (I am the same weight as Tyson Fury), my daughter begs me to let her drive the SL and calls it "sic", I think that probably sums it up but you should really test drive both before deciding.

I can't get on with the r170 - just s bit too small. Strangely even an r129 is slightly cramped but I got used to that.
Not tried an r171 but the r230SL is positively capacious.

If you can afford to run a SL500 go for it, we've had 4 SL's, a 350, 2 500's and a SL55 which have given good reliable runnings as everyday cars.......Well nearly except for the last 2-3months where both SL's are throwing hissie fits and small tamtrims

Ok guys, I've had a change of heart. I really fancy a W221 S350 or S500. It will be an earlier one, 2006, 2007. Are they better built than the W220s? I've had 2 of them (S320 and S280) and they constantly had suspension problems. Beautiful to drive though

Yesterday I fancied an Aston Martin DB9, I was thinking one around 2015 or 2016 as I cannot afford a new DB11, then found out it is slower than my SL500 so abandoned the idea!
