Hi,

I've a '88 250TD and I was considering selling it and buying a late 1990's E300TD or E320 diesel (estates).

Question is, where do I look, both to get an idea of what mine might be worth and see what's available? Autotrader's obvious but my local edition (Kent & SE London) hardly ever has any of the above models - the odd E300 or E320 but I can't remember the last time I saw a 250TD. So, is it that any of these models rarely come up for sale, or is there somewhere else everyone except me knows about? ;-)

Any advice much appreciated.

Regards,

Hi Stuart

I am by no means an expert but have just bought a 99 250td from Ebay, seller had loads of good reviews from loads of pervious car sales. stated 12 full merc serv history with 165.000 miles.

I havn't picked it up yet but I looked and looked for about a month or so. Autotrader turned up hopefulls but when I looked at them in the flesh they were tatty or they were suspect. I really don't like people who steam clean engines as get hyper suspect of them.

I also rang a merc service shop in tooting who were very helfpull and said if you can get the car to them they will give it the once over for £45.

I am sure others on the forum will have much better advice but thought I would punt that your way.

Hi Guy,

Thanks for the advice. Would it be impolite to ask how much you paid for your 250TD?

Btw, reading "Final Cost Breakdown for Blocat's W210 E320CDI", I was somewhat surprised at the trade-in figure given (£5000). As I said, I'm looking at late 1990's E300TD or E320CDI estates, up to 150k miles, and my budget's around 50% higher; the only car I've seen for sale at £5k was a '97 E300TD with chips and badly touched-up scratches on virtually every panel. :(

Thus, if anyone reading this has anything like a 52(?) E320CDI with 110k for which they're only being offered £5k, feel free to pm or e-mail me. ;-)

The latest W124 model (like yours) you can buy would be a 1996 E300 Diesel with a 606 engine. Different engine to your car

The early W210 estates (round headlights) used the same 606 engine in turbocharged & non-turbocharged form. The 320 CDi (with a new common-rail turbocharged engine) came in around 1999

The value of your car depends almost entirely on condition. If it's decent I'd expect it to be worth £1000 - £2000

Early W210s are cheaper than late W124s which is quite revealing
