C class AMG wont start

Hi all a friend with a 1998 c class 4.3 came to visit today ,time to leave and the car refused to start, turned over fine but despite try for some time would not fire up, back indoors to plan action over a coffee, went back to the car a short while (20 mins) later and it started first turn of the key !! never done it before any ideas or is it a Fri 13th thing?

That model use,s the famous 1532728 crank sensor, that would be my first bet!!

Hi and thanks for the info, is this likely to happen on a regular basis and would you recommend getting the sensor replaced or is it just a now and then thing that may never happen again.

The sensor can pack up whilst you are in full flight. It will cut the engine out without warning so I would strongly recommend replacing it.

Ive had two of these go on previous V6 W202 models and it can be dangerous when it kills the engine.

Just to add another vote for the crank sensor - had the same issue on mine. Got the sensor swapped out and everything was right as rain again :cool: Thankfully it's an easy DIY job and not even that expensive really if you take it to a good indie to sort :)
