Hi,

I'm fairly new to this! My A class Mercedes is 2 years old and is due a C service very soon. Can you tell me approx, how much this will cost. I have 22,000 miles on the clock and always get services etc. done at the MB dealership. I just want to know what to expect.
Thanks, Lisa

Hi Lisa,
my experience is that you can't tell until you get there. The basic service price will be menu based so the dealer can give you an exact quote. Ring a couple as they tend to compete these days. However, extras can easliy double the price with simple things like new brake pads if needed so it's very hard to predict. Ring the dealer that did the last service, they will know what was done last time so should be able to predict what will be needed this time.

Thanks

I'll give them a call and see. My nearest one is a few hundred miles away and it's the only one, so I guess I will have no other choice than to go with what they charge. Thanks for your help, i hope they don;t charge me too much.

Where are you? Presumably not in the UK with distances like that...
In the EU we have block exemption rules that means they can't force you to use the dealerships. Provided everything is done according to the manufacturer's specs, anyone can do it and your warranty remains valid.

I didn't realise that. So how do you find out your nearest garage that will service a car according to the manufacturers specs? Sounds a lot cheaper than going to the stealership :D

Pretty much any garage can do this and many advertise the fact - you just need to call in and ask a few questions. But, I prefer the middle ground of finding a reliable indie specialist. They may be £20 or so more than another garage but they know the cars better and you can trust them to only fit proper MB parts.

Cost wise, it should be 30-50% cheaper than the dealer on cars up to 3 years. Over 3 the dealers now offer deals and the gap is narrower, though still worth having.
The only downside is that you lose Mobilio breakdown cover after year 2.

MD direct also servicng that cost lower than normal MB dealers, you make a saving and still get a MB stamp in the book, as well as keeping mobilio cover

But there are only a few centres in the Uk (3?) I am lucky as I am realtively near the manchester one
