Have a C180, 48K, Full Merc Serv History.

Had the car about 6 months and did about 3000 miles all fine.

1) About 2 months ago the car suddenly developed a whine from the gearbox, car drove to a Merc specialist and was told the gbox oil cooler had gone - causing water in oil & gearbox to fail - he replaced gearbox - and fitted a modified oil cooler.

2) 3 week later & about 500 miles - gearbox starts to whine (as before) and this time drive is lost. Back to merc specialist - after much head scratching - I'm told the problem is with the oil pump - not pumping oil, and its down to a faulty ECU that for some reason had switched off the oil supply to the gbox. gearbox re-buit, new pump and 2nd hand ecu.

3) 6 weeks later (Now) & about 800 miles - gearbox starts to whine & drive lost once again. Its back with the Merc specialist.

problems 2) ans 3) both occurred when doing local driving - not motorway or in under any sort of heavy load. There are no signs of any oil leaks, or other unusual symptoms ....etc

Anybody got any ideas about whats happening?
