Hi.

What would you think is "average" for a C180 to do per tank? I filled up on Monday, drove about 20 miles around town, then did a very short burst on the motorway for no more than 10 minutes, and then back into London again. I've done about 80-90 miles and used a quarter of a tank... Does that sound about right??
I think it is a little low...

Hi,

My 2 litre W202 is regularly used for short stop-start journeys, usually to work and back with no motorway miles. Given this activity will be fairly high on consumption, I can regularly expect to get 350 miles or so from a tankful before the reserve light comes on. W202 saloon has a 62 litre tank, btw. £52 fills it to the brim at 84.9/litre.

I know from experience using super unleaded makes a positive difference also.

Hope this helps.

Cold weather and short runs are not the best for measuring fuel consumption. If there is no black smoke coming out of the exhaust then it is normal

Well that works out between 25-30mpg, sounds pretty good to me.

That sounds about right assuming your C180 is the Auto . In suburban running mine shows about 32 mpg on the computer, out of town but still on A-B roads with a light foot I can get 40 mpg + .

Rough measurements are always mis-leading. The only way is to measure properly. Having said that the car has a computer that is always measuring your fuel consumption - so what does that say?
