Hey, guys. Just bought a P plate C200 Auto at auction and have a gearbox problem. Delivered on a low loader, checked it all over ready for an mot. On driving to the mot station, it won't change gear. appears to be stuck in 2nd. gear lever goes to all the slots - reverse is fine. topped up oil level , which has reduced the 'clunk' noise.
from reading the forum, could be in 'limp home mode' or maf sensor fault. will change auto box oil tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. may be able to got fault codes read if that helps. cheers

The first thing that needs to be done is a fault code read.

has it got the S and W switch by the gear lever?

hi, yes it has the 'winter' 'standard' switch, doesn't make any difference if i change it

Very hard guessing,, the speed sensor plate could have gone, putting the car on STAR would tell you what the fault is

if there is a serious fault the ETC computer turns off its control of the transmission and whats left defaults to a clunky version of 2nd or reverse.

need some codes read.
