ok, it just sailed through the mot (one suspension arm) so looks like I'm keeping it at least a year. So question (should I start a new thread?) can the level sensor be fooled in to seeing a false (correct) level, so shutting up the warning and allow me to just use a dipstick like on a normal car?

you seem to be going round in circles what you want and don't want.
How about getting a nee sensor and getting it replaced.
did you even get the correct workshop dipstick.
