Hello

I've had my C200K Auto for more than a year now (52 plate with 46K miles on the clock) and have a few questions re the auto box:

The car has always been like this and I've always wondered if these things are normal.

1) When cold, it seems to hold 2nd gear for a bit, but once it changes to 3rd and after that, it is perfectly fine - even after a start from 1st.

2) The change from 1st to 2nd (only when cold and under very little throttle) seems a little hard. All the other changes are smooth and once operating temparature has been reached, it is fine.

3) Winter mode - this seems like a more comfortable drive, but as the car pulls off in 2nd, does this affect fuel consumption in town?

Many thanks in advance.

Your car is perfect and normal, it holds onto the lower gears when cold to warm up the CAT quickly.

The W is a second gear start, and should be more economical, and I often use this on my SL500 as it stops the rear wheels from spinning.

You have another advantage of using W, on a hill it will not roll back as it has a sprag clutch built in

Hello Malcolm

Thank you for the answer - I thought it was OK and will now be using W more.
