c200k fuel related fault

hi all, recently i had the misfortune of my c200k failing on the motorway , it felt like the car had run out of fuel although there was no warning and the fuel tank was reading quarter full, the aa mechanic agreed and 5 liters of fuel got me going again to the next petrol station where i brimmed the tank to a cost of £21 pounds only? , the tank would take no more and reading was now 3 quarters ?

Fuel Sending Unit

It sounds as if your fuel gauge sensor (Sending Unit) located in the fuel tank is at fault.

Did the engine just splutter to a halt or die almost instantly?

It does sound as if your tank sensor is faulty though.

thanks for the replies guys , the engine did splutter to a halt , ive recently filled up with bp super and added injector cleaner , i`ll post my results if any heres hoping !

Collapsing Of The Tank

possible fuel tank collapsing due to closed circuit evaporation control charcoal filter not being changed.

Would the collapsing of the tank cause a miss reading of the tanks contents?
