Hi,
Yesterday I pressed the button on my tailgate to close it and whilst it was closing someone reached into the boot. I grabbed and stopped the tailgate to prevent it hitting their arm. Since then the power closing and opening no longer works.

I can release the catch with a footswipe, the fob or the button inside the drivers door and the tailgate springs open a few inches, but manual intervention is required to open it the rest of the way or to close it.
If I try to open it the rest of the way using the drivers door switch, I hear three clicks from the boot on the LHS.
If I try to close it using the drivers door switch, I hear two clicks (in rapid succession) from the boot on the LHS.

TLDR; Interrupted the tailgate closing sequence, now have to manually open/close it.

What I've tried so far:

1) Using an iCarsoft MB V2.0 diagnostic tool, I read fault code B188C13 from the 'Power Tail Gate' module. The text for this error is: "The Electric Motor For The 'Trunk Lid/Liftgate Control' Has a Malfunction. There Is An Open Circuit".

2) Checked all the fuses located in:
** The fusebox in the boot on the RHS
** The fusebox in the passenger footwell
** The fusebox in the engine bay on the RHS

3) Considered removing the trim around the tailgate hinges but thought better of it for now and I don't think I could manage it without damaging the trim clips, plus surely I couldn't have mechanically damaged anything - the boffins at Mercedes must have allowed for an obstruction?

Would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Have you tried holding the switch on the drivers door in the open position for fifteen seconds or so. It might need this doing to reset it, although I’m working on a hunch here

I just tried holding the switch on the drivers door in the up (and also tried down) position for 15-20 seconds. No change. Also tried doing the same with the button in the tailgate and the fob. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yes, that is helpful - it's looking like the safety system has been triggered and a trip to a garage is needed to reset it. Thank you!
Does anyone happen to know if disconnecting the battery for a while could reset the system?

That has to be worth a try before going to a specialist.
