Hi Folks,

I hope someone can advise on this. I have a diesel leak from a small plastic component which is on top of the engine. When you remove the plastic cover from the engine this component is lying near the injectors.

It is about 25mm dia. and 50mm long. It is connected by a 10mm plastic pipe about 250mm long to the top of the fuel filter. It looks like some sort of a vent, but its dripping steadily and causing a smell in the car.

Can anyone tell me what it is, so that I can try to get a replacement.

Cheers

I think this is what I had changed on my 270 last week, afraid it was done by the supplying dealer so I don't have much info but I think they called it a 'vapour trap' apparently quite well known failiure.
I too was getting the smell of diesel.

From looking in the engine bay at the weekend I think the bit that was changed was part 222 on here
http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...648716.649&CT=M&cat=21T&SID=07&SGR=120&SGN=03
Which is listed as a valve & not expensive, see here.

As I say not too much help to you but if it is the right part that I am talking about then I expect someone else will be able to give us the low down on what it does and how easy it is to change.

Keep us informed

Cheers

Cliff

Thanks for the links guys, 222 is the part alright, Vapour trap would sound about right. I'll see if I can get one tomorrow, shouldn't be too much of a problem to fit.

I'll let you knowhow it goes.

Hi Guys,

I got the valve from Merc, a bit more pricey that Iexpected at £37 but that's the joy of motoring I suppose. Fitted it myself n got the cuts n scratches to prove it. Its a very fiddley job but it only took a little over 1 hour.

Once again thanks very muchfor your help.

By the way it is a vent valve to bleed air fromthe fuel system.

Cheers

Glad to hear all is well.
Why was it £37 though when part 222 is listed at £12.20 on the MB parts site?
